The Kremlin isn't denying Russians were killed in Syria, but says they weren't regular soldiers

The Kremlin stopped short of a flat out denial that Russians may have been killed in last week's failed attack on a US-Kurdish base in Syria.
Instead Russia said that they "do not possess detailed information that would enable us to draw conclusions," and that "It cannot be ruled out that there may be citizens of the Russian Federation in Syria."
The Kremlin did say that if any Russians died, "They are not connected to the armed forces of the Russian Federation."

REUTERS/Sergei Karpukhin MOSCOW - Five Russian citizens may have been killed in Syria in clashes with U.S.-led coalition forces this month, but they were not Russian military personnel, a Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman said on Thursday.
"Based on preliminary information, as a result of an armed encounter, the reasons for which are now being investigated, we could be talking about the deaths of five people," the spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova told a briefing.
