Microsoft calls for government regulation of facial recognition technology

On Friday, Microsoft called for laws and regulation around facial recognition technology, and asked for "a bipartisan expert commission to assess the best way to regulate" it.
The call to action was made via a blog post by Microsoft President Brad Smith, in which he warns that the software can be used to unfairly target people of color.
This comes just months after advocacy groups called on Amazon to stop offering such services to governments, and employees from various companies have come forward with their own opinions on the matter.
