On Thursday, English pop singer Robbie Williams and Russian opera singer Aida Garifullina joined forces to deliver a memorable three-song concert ahead of the tournament's opening match between host country Russia and Group A opponents Saudi Arabia.
The opening ceremony had everything - from gymnastics and pyrotechnics to Williams giving the FOX TV camera the middle finger.

The 2018 World Cup has officially kicked off. Soccer teams from Saudi Arabia and Russia - the tournament's host country - play the first match Thursday morning.
In preparation for the games, Russia has devoted more than $2.8 billion toward building and updating 12 massive stadiums across 11 cities. A quarter of internet users worldwide plan to watch the World Cup digitally, according to data from a June 2018 Ipsos report.
Almost half of internet users in China are planning to watch online, as are 45% in India and 44% in Saudi Arabia.
Fans will be able to watch games in real time through social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook.
In Latin America, fans can stream all of the matches live from a mobile app on their smartphones, and watch them in virtual reality .
